Microsoft launched the Xbox Series X video game console globally. It is a fourth-generation Xbox model and a successor of the Xbox one consoles. The console is defined by its speed, power, and compatibility factors and is priced at $499. The Xbox Series S, a more affordable model of the Series X, was also released on November 10, priced at $299. In the video gaming world, the Series X models are considered ninth-generation video game consoles.
Announcement and launch
The Xbox Series X was initially teased during the X-box E3 briefing in 2018, where Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, stated that they were already architecting the next generation of X-box consoles that would deliver the next level console gaming. At the E3 2019, the next Xbox was announced officially and was known as Project Scarlett. A video presentation revealed the release window and the specs of the console. At the 2019 Game Awards, Phil Spencer officially unveiled the Xbox Series X console.
The Xbox Series X was launched worldwide on November 10, 2020, as earlier indicated. The console had access to over 1000 video games from the earlier generation of Xbox. The Series X gaming consoles sold out rapidly, with the consoled becoming very hard to come by. Xbox later revealed that the Xbox Series X launch was the biggest they ever had for an Xbox console.
Design
The Xbox Series-X has its own unique design, unlike the other consoles before it. Rather than being the traditional flat horizontal shape, the Series-X has a tall rectangular shape. It can also be placed in a horizontal position since there are small feet placed on the sides. The console is slightly bigger than the Xbox One X, with the dimensions 151mm x 151mm x 301mm.
The disk drive is on the left side at the bottom of the console, while a connect button and a USB port being placed on the other side of it. Ventilation for the Xbox Series X console is located at the top of the system, with the vent grill being curved rather than flat. It was a design choice made to make the Xbox console as quiet as possible, with the single installed large fan pushing air out through the top.
At the backside of the console, there are two large vents on both sides. In between the vents are an ethernet port, two USB-A ports, a HDMI-Out port, an expandable storage slot, and a power connection. The expandable storage slot can be used with 1TB Storage Expansion Cards, allowing users to expand their console’s storage. Some users also use USB drives to increase the storage at a lower cost; however, Series X games require SSD and NVMe speed; hence cannot be played off a USB drive. You must move it from the USB drive to the console’s main storage or the storage expansion card to play the game.
